Mini Assignment 2: Love, Princess Diana – Messages from Heaven

Growing up resigned to the position of the Spare did not create an easy life for Harry. I would like to tell you all how proud I am of him for his bravery these past few years, and especially the last two months, when he has spoken his truth and did what he needed to do to protect his family.

Harry did what had not been done for me in order to save my life. The constant swarm of paparazzi which killed me could’ve very well killed Meghan too if they left things as they were. The intrusion and lack of privacy from the press are feelings I know all too well. But I can’t even begin to imagine how it must’ve felt to deal with the constant criticism and belittlement she received, just for marrying the person whom she loves.

Harry and Meghan have the right to tell their side of the story that has been stolen from them by the thousands of articles falsifying the truth about their family. They have the right to change Britain and the rest of the world by challenging the racist, sexist narratives surrounding their marriage. And finally, they have the right to step away from the institution that harmed their family, and protect each other and their children from these terrible tropes. Their decisions are ones that I will always stand by.

And just in case anyone was wondering, yes, I do have access to Netflix up here, as is there a bookstore too. I’ve seen it all and I’ve read it all, but I’ve also watched it all unfold in front of my eyes. I know the truth and Harry and Meghan are telling it.

On a final note, it truly breaks my heart to see how the relationship between my two sons—the people whom I am the proudest of—has dissolved. Despite the different directions they have gone in their lives, I want them to somehow find it within themselves to find a mutual understanding of their circumstances and what brought them to where they are now. I raised my boys to take care of each other and it would bring me the most joy to know that they are doing just that.

Love,

Diana
